What is Kratom?

Kratom (Mitragyna speciosa) refers to a tropical evergreen tree in the Rubiaceae family, native to Southeast Asia. The plant produces broad leaves with a diverse spectrum of naturally occurring indole alkaloids, including mitragynine, 7-hydroxymitragynine, speciogynine, and paynantheine. These compounds are of phytochemical interest due to their structural complexity and distribution across different strains and geographic regions.

The leaves are traditionally classified by the vein color — red, green, or white — reflecting differences in leaf maturity, post-harvest treatment, and regional variation.

Buying kratom in the EU

When ordering botanical materials such as kratom within the European Union, it’s important to choose suppliers that meet current trade, safety, and labeling requirements. Legal status of kratom

The legal status of Mitragyna speciosa differs by EU Member State. It is the buyer’s responsibility to check the local legal framework before ordering. In this blog post you can see in which countries the trade in kratom is allowed. Mitragyna speciosa is considered a Novel Food by the European Commission and therefore is not legal to sell as food. Choosing between kratom types

All kratom products available from EUKratom are offered as finely milled leaf material. For comparison purposes, sample packs are available. We often recommend users purchase our sample packs to find the type of kratom that fits their purposes.
