Kratom is generally categorized into two types: wild Kratom and cultivated (farmed). While farmed kratom is grown under controlled conditions, wild kratom refers to naturally occurring trees found deep in the rainforests of Southeast Asia.

One of the most noticeable differences lies in the leaves themselves – wild kratom trees often produce larger, thicker, and coarser leaves. These trees have developed naturally over many generations, often growing unrestricted for decades in untouched environments. In areas like Wild Borneo, many of these trees average around 8 years of age, compared to the much younger age of most farmed kratom trees.

However, the growing popularity of kratom has led to an influx of new cultivators in Indonesia. While this has increased availability, it has also introduced challenges related to inconsistent quality and lack of cultivation expertise. Many new growers lack the long-term knowledge needed to produce consistently high-quality harvests.

That said, farmed kratom can still be excellent – but replicating the ideal conditions of a wild environment requires deep experience, proper soil management, and often a more sustainable approach.

Another significant distinction is that wild kratom is naturally pesticide-free, something that’s not always guaranteed in conventional cultivation. Wild-harvested strains are often more robust and diverse in character, but they are also harder to manage, harvest, and transport – making them a more exclusive and premium product.
